SuMa Partners, Ltd. consults in human resources, labor relations and employee communication. Its primary mission is to maximize management credibility and organizational efficiency by designing and implementing enhanced employee communication and practices.
Clients direct or by subcontract, include or have included a telecommunication service provider, a multi-state heavy equipment distributor, a start-up aircraft manufacturer, a cargo airline, an international apparel manufacturer and distributor, an international death services provider, a hospital, six major public utilities and other service and manufacturing companies.
Marc D. Goldberg, J.D., CBM, SPHR, President and Consulting Principal, has over 25 years of corporate experience, including 10 years at the senior management and executive levels of General Electric, Contel Corporation, Executone, Inc. and Mobile Telecommunication Technologies (Mtel). He has over 14 years consulting experience. Corporate positions have been in large and small manufacturing, sales, service, distribution R&D and engineering organizations. Prior to forming SuMa Partners, he consulted to healthcare, education, software, consumer marketing and forest products organizations. Marc was a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Compensation Committee of a publicly-traded, international, consumer electronics and music company. He serves as a financial services arbitrator with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and works to improve accountability in the nonprofit sector as an Executive Volunteer with Nonprofits First.
SuMa Partners has been in business since January 1995, incorporated in Delaware in January 1996 and is authorized to conduct business in Florida as SuMa Partners, Ltd. (Inc.)
Accomplishments include:
Facilitated long range planning for a large parochial day school including development of mission, vision, philosophy, goals and objectives. It continued to be their model for at least 7 years.
Identified needs and led the development of training programs to upgrade first and second level management skills resulting in favorable employee survey response to improved management style.
Maintained morale and managed turnover and staffing while a business was for sale. Directed closing of headquarters and implementation of temporary benefits during a merger with two purchasers. Commended for skillful balance of employee interests with those of four participating organizations.
Directed human resource and facilities aspects of several divestitures, acquisitions and major reorganizations. Participated in negotiations and twice found reasons to cancel planned acquisitions. Directed the successful integration of three businesses, including union and non-union workforces.
Created and managed initial organization plan to support three-fold growth of a nationwide telecommunication business.
Led a city selection task force and coordinated 65 employee relocations from Upstate New York to Atlanta on time and within budget.
Implemented a challenging MBO process to support incentive payments and negotiated objectives individually with vice presidents and directors.
Co-led conversion of a nationwide sales force from straight salary to incentive compensation. Sales improved by 20% with about half of the improvement attributed to the plan.
Chief spokesperson or strategist for 9 contracts, including using a win/win process to negotiate new work scope and extreme physical requirements with a guards union to meet new government nuclear facility hardening requirements. In that case the deadline and 25 cents per hour cost constraints were met while protecting senior capable employees.
Provided employee and management communication to support a utility's first negotiations in a deregulated environment. The utility met its objectives.
Participated in or led over 25 successful representation defenses including one affiliation defense. Conducted accurate audits of the risk of being organized.
Led 3 successful efforts to support union decertifications.
